Intern therapists are students working toward their doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Indianapolis. They provided reduced rate and sliding scale fee services in both therapy and assessment. Their work is supervised by Dr. Cole.
I began working towards my doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Indianapolis in 2020 and have experience working in community mental health, crisis intervention, and college counseling. I am currently providing both therapy and assessment services in a private practice setting.
I have worked with adult clients from multicultural backgrounds presenting with chronic illness, trauma, and various mood disorders, as well as young adults experiencing difficulty with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life stressors, and adjustment. I believe in early intervention but also emphasize the value of seeking support later in life when access to resources may become more readily available, seem necessary for a current concern, or an individual feels open to processing earlier experiences.
I utilize a client-centered approach as I aim to meet you where you’re at and tailor your therapeutic experience toward overall wellbeing based on your values, strengths, and end goals. I incorporate mindfulness-based approaches when necessary to build your confidence in your ability to cope with day-to-day stressors. Overall, my goal is to work together to encourage mutual understanding of your view of yourself, your relationships, and the world around you.
My name is Manasa Swaminathan, and I am a fourth-year clinical psychology doctoral student at the University of Indianapolis. I have a solid foundation in both clinical work and research. Previously, I have completed externships at Purdue Counseling Services, the VA Medical Center, and IU School of Medicine, where I conducted therapy, comprehensive neuropsychological testing, and developmental assessments.
My current interests include assessing for neurodevelopmental disorders, navigating intergenerational trauma, and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. As a South Asian immigrant woman, I value the mind-body connection and incorporate healing techniques from both Western and Eastern medicine.
In terms of research, I have collaborated with numerous labs on a variety of topics and am actively involved in large-scale projects related to neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health disparities. My goal is to integrate my research experience and passion for psychology into my clinical practice.
